Valerie Zarate - Intake Specialist and Legal Assistant
I was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley. I came to Austin to pursue a degree at The University of Texas at Austin and obtained a Bachelor’s of Arts. During my undergraduate years a lot of my attention was focused on organizations which placed a great deal of attention on the minority population and children. Frequently I volunteered around the community at schools and guided young minority students. One of my philosophies is “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better.”
In the future I plan on attending law school and focusing on immigration and criminal law. Coming from a big family of immigrants I always planned on fighting and being an advocate for minorities. I constantly saw all the hardships my family had to deal with and I one day want to be able to help people like them fight for a better life.
My parents are my number one motivators. They have always believed in me and encouraged me to go above and beyond. They are the reason for all my success. With their constant support and guidance I will continue to make them proud.
